I’m really pleased with how these diy push pins turned out and they were so easy to make too. – when buying the wooden balls and pins, make sure the pins are the right size for the hole in the wooden ball. – make sure you don’t have too much glue because you don’t want it to leak out, otherwise your pins will get stuck to the cork they’re drying on – I learned this from experience □ – I found the best way to create the firmest bond was to pin the balls on to a piece of cork and leave them to dry – as you can see in the picture above. These minimal diy push pins are really simple to make and they look great on a cork board. I’m a big fan of natural wood and when I spotted a pack of wooden balls in my craft cupboard, I realised these would look great as push pins – nice design and still as functional as they need to be. After all, they don’t look so great, do they? So I decided I needed to decorate the push pins and make them a bit prettier. I recently put together an inspiration (cork) board for myself but I wasn’t crazy about the basic plastic or metal push pins that you can buy. I added the stamped push pins to the fabric covered cork board above my desk.Why shouldn’t everyday objects be beautiful as well as practical? Let them dry completely before using, which could be about 4-6 hours. You could also glue them to magnets if you have a magnetic board to use them on. Use E6000 to glue the tacks to the back of the hearts. Make sure to check that the letter is going the right direction and not backwards before you stamp. I love them! I also love the scalloped edges of the hearts. The marker will go into the grooves of the letters and make them stand out. Once the hearts are stamped you can write over the letters with a black sharpie. If you have a piece of metal you can practice on that would be the best. You will need to vary how many times you strike the stamp depending on the hardness of the metal. These hearts aren’t very thick so I hit the stamp with the hammer 2-3 times. When I’m stamping a word I start with the middle letter and work my way out to make sure the word is centered. I think you can also purchase stamping surfaces at craft store, but again you don’t need too. You need to stamp on a hard surface, like cement, but I didn’t want to scratch the hearts so I placed them on a paper plate. I think there are more detailed sets available now, but you don’t need to spend much money for a basic set. I bought the metal stamp set at Harbor Freight a few years ago. Take off the jump ring, then use wire cutters to cut the loop off the top of the heart. The push pins are so simple to make and only take a few steps. I started with these heart charms, I believe they were in the scrapbook section. I like being able to create without having to run to the store to purchase new things. I’m also always trying to use up my craft stash. The D&L is a reminder that I need to always be working on the most important relationship I have. These are things I’m still working on everyday so I decided to make metal stamped push pins for the cork board over my desk so I can see them daily.
